ISDI R&D Austria: Intern Wins Award for Video Report on Research Internship
Matteo Gori - Research Intern at ISDI
In the summer of 2025, Matteo Gori completed a research internship at ISDI R&D Austria, which was funded by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG). All FFG interns have the opportunity to create an internship report – either in text or video form – and submit it to a competition organized by the FFG.
For his final report, Matteo decided to summarize his experiences in a video. His submission is among the 20 best entries in the competition and will be awarded in April 2026. We congratulate Matteo on his achievement!

During his internship, Matteo Gori customized a monochromator to be integrated in the optical lab setup. For this purpose, he produced various components in the ISDI R&D Austria laboratory in Villach using a 3D printer. He was supported by Senior Engineer and Project Manager Andrea Fant:
“Matteo completed his tasks very precisely and reliably. We are pleased that he was part of our team over the summer.”
The components Matteo produced needed to be light-tight. To achieve this, he adjusted and optimized the settings of the 3D printer and run several printing trials. Finally, he completed all the parts and assembled the monochromator setup.
“It was a lot of fun working with the 3D printer. These are impressively fast and precise machines,” Matteo explains, adding: “I really enjoyed the internship at ISDI and learned a lot from it.”
