As a company that supplies essential components for critical medical and industrial imaging systems, sustainability has always been at the centre of our company strategy.  The ISDI Group (ISDI, Spectrum Logic, ISDI gmbh, ISDI Austria) believes that addressing environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues will create a strong, reliable and ultimately sustainable company culture, which will ensure that we continue to contribute to global health and safety.

Since the company was founded in 2010 we have striven to manufacture products which have a positive impact.  Today, ISDI is a global leader in providing X-ray detectors for surgical C-arms used on vascular and orthopaedic surgery.  We are proud of the contribution our products make to health and well-being globally.  Our X-ray detectors are also used in quality control and inspection systems for electric vehicle batteries, PCBs and power modules, enabling the transition to electric mobility and reducing the risk of battery fires and failures.

Our ESG Environmental, Social and Governance initiatives in 2023 include:

·       We have introduced an electric vehicle salary sacrifice scheme (EVSSS) to enable employees to purchase and commute to work in electric vehicles.  At our UK facility we have installed an EV charge point.  Most of our employees travel to work by bicycle, walking or public transport.
·       In our efforts to reduce our global transportation footprint we make a concerted effort, where possible, to source supplies locally from UK companies. To date we have worked with 125 UK suppliers and consultants. Although some of our components can only be acquired from abroad, we always search for local suppliers as a preference. Mechanical CnC milled components (our detector enclosures), ceramic sensor substrates and carbon fibre windows are all made in the UK. Most PCBs are sourced from a UK company with some production activities in China and some in the UK.
·       We continue to make a positive social impact within our local community by offering paid internships, which have included data analysis leading to an academic paper being drafted, creation of image analysis software for a new optical scanner and an intern gaining work experience as a mechanical engineer. We also offer voluntary work experience for teenagers doing A levels at school. Our aim is to inspire young people to consider future careers in engineering and physics. In the last year we have had five paid interns and three people on school-work experience.
·       Finally, as a company we recognise the importance of governance in contributing to the company’s sustainability.  Although everyone in the team is expected to contribute and participate in our ISO Quality System through regular audits and review – we have decided to reinforce this by building resources.  In 2023 we have increased the size of our Quality team and prioritised customer satisfaction – focusing specifically on on-time delivery to provide excellent customer service.
